I wanted to tell you a little about my 240 z. As you can tell this is a very low number car. I purchased this car after it sat in a driveway, in Vancouver, Wa., for 5 years. The z had sat out in the weather, uncovered, tires flat, you know generally ignored. The owner was a neighbor of my best friend Gary. Gary and i would talk about the car, mostly gary saying "I sure wish Rick would do something, about that car. Well one thing led to another, and i went over and talked to Rick. He said he would sell it to me for $300.00, provided i would do some thing with it. I told him of my plans, and offered him, $1,500. I just couldn't see myself taking advantage of him, for i pretty much new what he had there, and i didn't want him to change his mind.
I told him to air up the tires, and i would bring over a battery the next night. He asked me what i was going to do, and i told him, "I'm going to drive it home." To make a long story short, i installed a battery, had Rick get in the car, i freed up the throttle linkage, gave the twin S.U.'s a shot of starting fluid, and told him to hit the key. The car fired, but didn't start, another round of starting fluid, he hit the key, and she came to life. Rick looked like he had saw a ghost. I drove the car home that night, with dim lights, and only the emergency brake, to stop.
Thus began a 21/2 year restoration project, that was even more extensive, than i had anticipated. After literally going thru every component, and system, i now have a car thats roughly 2 months away from completion.
It's been a labor of love, and a walk back thru time. I was fortunately a factory trained Datsun mechanic, in the early 70's, when this car came out. By working on this car, it actually is transporting me back to that dealership, in Minnesota, in which i worked on z cars on a daily basis.
In closing, i only uploaded my car, at the request of Ross Williams, because he asked me to. I really wanted to wait, until the car was finished.
I hope you enjoyed my journey so far, stay tuned for further updates in the general discussion forms.
